Physical Characteristics

Object Description: Circular clear glass lens with a metal rim on both sides. The front is dull silver-colored metal, the back is black. A bracket holds the front and back of the metal frame together. A number is stamped near the clasp of the bracket on the front side. The black side of the rim is dome-shaped and slightly curves over the lens.

This lens from the U-505’s attack periscope was presented to Merit Chapman & Scout, a marine salvage company in September of 1954 when the boat was dedicated as a war memorial.
