About: German Kriegsmarine Wounded in Combat Medallion

About: German Kriegsmarine Wounded in Combat Medallion

The German Verwundeten-Abzeichen or “wound badge” can be seen as a German equivalent to the American Purple Heart. The badge can be awarded in black, silver or gold depending on the severity of the wound. This example has been painted red; this might indicate that the bearer had served time in the Hitler Youth prior to naval service.
