About: Miniature Piano, Fairy Castle

About: Miniature Piano, Fairy Castle

The piano in the Drawing Room is part of the set of rare and elegant furnishings found in the room. Cinderella and a pumpkin are hand-painted on the inside of the piano’s lid which is always open for guests to view. The keys are hand-carved from ivory. The theme of the Drawing Room is the story of Cinderella, reflected in murals painted by George Townsend Cole, who also painted the ceiling. The floor is rose quartz with a border of green jade which was made in China and took nine months to complete. Above the shimmering floor is the diamond, emerald, and pearl chandelier which at one time, was lit with tiny electric light bulbs, the size of grains of wheat (to modernize the lighting and because these tiny light bulbs are no longer manufactured, newer LED lighting has been installed throughout the Fairy Castle). The chandelier was designed and created by H.B. Crouch, a famous jeweler and authority on antiques.
