About: Miniature Tusk Sculpture, Fairy Castle

About: Miniature Tusk Sculpture, Fairy Castle

This miniature narwhal tusk is found in the Great Hall of the Fairy Castle (although the tusk is actually seashell, not ivory). Narwhals are whales that are often referred to as the unicorns of the sea because of a tooth that extends out of a narwhal’s mouth and looks like a tusk.

The Great Hall with floating staircase is a grand room with many treasures. The floor is composed of ivory carved with rose vines which carry up onto the great pillars supporting the ceiling. The ceiling includes domes painted by Helga Brabon of characters from fairytales of both the Grimm brothers and Hans Christian Anderson. The Great Hall includes many hanging wall paintings as well as many rare treasures gathered from around the world.
