About: ‘Palace of Fine Arts’ by Edwin Blashfield

This oil-on-canvas interpretation of the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition's Palace of Fine Arts was displayed in famed architect and urban designer Daniel Burnham's office until his death. The Griffin Museum of Science and Industry is housed in the former Palace of Fine Arts building. Other works by Edwin Howland Blashfield (1848-1936), also appeared inside the 1893 Columbian Exposition's buildings, including the dome of the Manufacturers' and Liberal Arts Building. Blashfield also painted at the Chicago's Elks National Veterans Memorial, the Library of Congress and several state capitol and public buildings.
