About: Simplex Open Touring Automobile

The Simplex Company of New York City built one of the most prestigious cars in America during the pre World War I period. The Simplex automobiles became notable sporting machines and enjoyed a great success in racing events such as the Indianapolis, Fairmont Park, Vanderbilt Cup and other similar racing events. With an average price of $6,000, which was equivalent to the price of ten new Model T Fords, the Simplex was one of the most expensive vehicles available during the period.

Simplex offered their vehicle with a variety of engines ranging from 38 horsepower to 90 horsepower. The most popular was the 50 horsepower version called the Model 50. About 250 Model 50 Simplexes were built and sold from 1900 to late 1915.
