About: Griffin and Sons Double Barrel Vacuum Pump
About: Griffin and Sons Double Barrel Vacuum Pump
Made in London by Griffin & Sons, this 1870s vacuum pump creates a vacuum, or space without matter or air, when the mechanical handle attached to the brass barrels is turned. By drawing the air out of the glass sphere and comparing its weight before and after, the pump could be used to entertain guests or scientifically demonstrate that air has weight.
