About: Jackson Publishing Co. Miniature U.S. Mail Bag Souvenir
During the 1933 Century of Progress Exposition, demonstrations for picking up U.S. mail by airplane without landing were done on the lagoon. The flights were sponsored by Dr. Lytle Adams (1881–1970) to publicize this new system to gain government approval. In 1939, airplanes started snatching mail from remote lakes and rivers, or from fields in towns too small to justify regular landings.
