About: Keuffel & Esser No. 5958 Anemometer and Case
Made by the Keuffel and Esser Company of New York, this late nineteenth century mechanical anemometer was used to measure wind speeds, often in mines or tunnels. Anemometers helped engineers determine if airflow was sufficient to ventilate a mine to avoid buildup of dangerous gases, which could cause explosions.
