About: Denny's Jetsons Kids Phenomenon Space Cards
About: Denny's Jetsons Kids Phenomenon Space Cards
This deck of cards from Denny’s contains information about space phenomena which are naturally occurring events within the vacuum of space, or directly resulting from an event within space we can observe and explain using science. The cards are decorated with the Jetson family from the 1960s animated television show who live in space during the 21st century and the cards contain information about supernovas, stars, meteorites, nebulas, galaxies, and comets which are all space phenomena. One card explains how galaxies are a huge group of stars held together by gravity and come in three shapes: elliptical, spiral, and irregular. The cards also encourage children to visit their local public library to learn more. Whether in the library or the classroom, space phenomena can drive student inquiry and add relevance by showing students that science happens all around them.
Denny’s was founded as a donut stand in 1953 in Lakewood, California, by Harold Butler and Richard Jezak. In 1956 Butler renamed the shop Danny’s Coffee Shops and changed to a 24-hour breakfast, lunch, and dinner diner. The diner was renamed Denny’s in 1961 and today is a restaurant chain with over 1,700 locations. Although Denny’s is considered a sit-down restaurant, Denny’s used similar marketing tactics of McDonald’s, Burger King, and other fast-food restaurants and offered children’s toys as a way to encourage families with children to choose Denny’s.
