Physical Characteristics

Object Description: Rectangular dark metal canister that has curved corners. Object sits vertically and is significantly rusted. There is a hole in the front with particles falling out. On the top are two (2) parallel raised lines and a circular cap in the center. There is embossed text to the right of the cap, between the two lines.

Air filters like this one allowed the crew of the U-505 to have a breathable air supply. These filters were installed in the air circulation system to prevent dangerous levels of carbon monoxide. There were hundreds on the sub. This filter was found in the bilge by museum staff in 1995.
