About: Model of ‘Nina’ Ship

About: Model of ‘Nina’ Ship

This is a 1/48 scale model of the Niña, one of the three ships used by Christopher Columbus during his first voyage across the Atlantic Ocean in 1492. The Niña was one of the three ships that Christopher Columbus used during his historic voyage to the New World. Officially named Santa Clara, the Niña was a caravel, a small, fast ship designed for long voyages across the ocean which could also navigate shallow waters. It was the smallest of Columbus’ fleet and was commanded by Vicente Yáñez Pinzón.After Columbus’ first journey, the Niña continued to be used for further exploration of the Americas under the Spanish. Despite its smaller size, the ship was reliable, and it made several trips between Spain and the Americas. While the exact fate of the Niña remains a mystery, it is remembered as an integral part of Columbus’ expeditions during the era of trans-oceanic exploration.
