About: Edison Standard Phonograph
About: Edison Standard Phonograph
The Edison Standard Phonograph, introduced in the 1890s, was a breakthrough in sound recording, designed for both personal use and mass production of recorded sound. Unlike earlier models, it used wax or hard rubber cylindrical records that could be played repeatedly, letting people listen to music or speeches at home. This made recorded sound more accessible and helped start the modern music industry. Although it was eventually replaced by disc players like the Victrola, the Edison Standard Phonograph was a key step in changing how people enjoyed music and other recordings.
